Stainless steel tumbling media for brass.  This is the media that I personally use for cleaning brass in a wet tumbler.  I believe it is far superior to the pins I started with.  It's a little more abrasive, so it cleans and shines the brass in less than half the time of pins.  It's shape also lends itself to not get stuck in flash holes or wedged sideways in case necks like the pins do.

When it's new, it may contain a few pieces of carbon steel that will rust.  This is only temporary, and doesn't negatively affect it's performance on the first uses.  Over the course of several weeks to months, depending on how often it's used, the rusty pieces will disintegrate and disappear, leaving only the stainless bits remaining.

It will last forever as long as you are careful about not losing it.  It's also magnetic, so picking up stray pieces is easy with a magnet.  A strong neodymium magnet works best for this.

It's recommended to pre-wash the media by itself for 30 minutes to an hour with a good degreaser like purple power or gojo to remove manufacturing oils.  This step isn't mandatory, but some people find it helpful.

5 pounds is enough for a standard rock tumbler such as a Thumler's Model B or Frankford Arsenal brass tumbler.

Any questions can be directed at me via the contact page or calling me, or you can contact Southern Shine directly at southernshinemedia1@gmail.com

5-20 pound orders are shipped directly from my shop.  60 pound orders may be drop shipped to you directly from the manufacturer.

Here is a write up from the manufacturer about how to separate the media from the cases.  This is a little different than how I do it.  If you are having trouble with this, you can call me at 541-409-5527 and I can explain my method, as I'm not great at explaining it with text:

The easiest way to separate your cleaned brass from your Southern Shine Media is to use a product from Frankfort Arsenal.  The Quick-n-EZ™ Rotary Sifter Kit with Bucket (SKU: 507565) will remove 99.999% of the chips from your brass mixture.  Dump as much of the water out of your tumbler as possible without any of the chips sneaking out. Next, fill the bucket that came with your Frankfort sifter up all the way to the top with cold water. (cold water reduces tarnishing on the brass) Now dump the Southern shine media and brass mixture into the rotary sifter. Some of the water will overflow so make sure you are in the sink or outside doing this.  Lock the sifter closed and start rotating it in the water.  I normally do 10 rotations one direction, and 10 rotations the other direction.  Once you think that the media has all fallen out, take the sifter out of the bucket and dump the contents into a bucket of water to do a final rinse on them.  I prefer to do a final rinse just to get any residual soap and lemon shine out of the cases.  At this point, all that is left is to separate the cases from the water.  The easiest way to do this is dump as much of the water as you can out of the bucket with the media in it.  Put the sifter back in the bucket and pour the brass/water back in and make a few revolutions and most all the water should come out.  All that’s left now is to lay the brass out on a towel and let it dry!

Easy to work with, doesn't clog and wedge like pins can. Good product! Shipping was prompt and well sealed.

These chips work so much better than pins. Washing at half the time and the cases come out looking like new. Highly recommend to anyone that wet tumbles!

The stainless media works great as this is the cleanest brass I have had. I am still trying to perfect the separation process.

    JRB Recommendation

Posted by Ryan on Feb 1st 2022

Like some others here, I found out about these on Johnny’s Reloading Bench YouTube channel. I gave them a try recently for a few batches of 9mm and 223 cases. I can tell a difference between this and the pins that came with my tumbler. They came out cleaner with less time. These little pieces are definitely harder to handle than the regular pins, but it didn’t take long to figure out.

I saw the outstanding job done by this product on YouTube Channel Johnny's Reloading Bench and Shannon (aka Johnny) really liked the outstanding performance of this product. On his recommendation I am buying 5lbs for my Frankford Arsenal Rotary Tumbler.

I haven't used them yet, but based on others who have they do a great jog. Looking forward to cleaning some brass after my next trip back from the range.
